alternative to what little boys are made of

Not sure what to make of the volume as a gender statement. It'south all the typical stuff: gamble and sports.
Neubecker's best piece of work is when he presents the circuitous pictures inside the boy's imagination, showing a world where the fantasy acts out in particular. The folio with the jungle had illustrations that remind me of some of Sendak's scarier ink drawings. I idea the ending was trite, until he added i more than folio to prove the male child imagining once again.

Trivial boys are total of swell things, adventurous things, magical things, wild things, agile things, and sweet things similar hugs and kisses. Neubecker's verses and illustrations are a great mode to share with boys how wonderful they are!
I admittedly love this book! Great for reading aloud and as a gift to a trivial male child or parents of piffling boys :)

A proficient souvenir for a family of boys, but the best part is the dedication, which reads:
"For my mom, who fearlessly
piloted her Buick on hundreds
of missions over hostile territory,
through blazing deserts, across
polar ice, and into outer infinite.
She never lost a man.
--R.N."

My simply consequence with this adorable book is information technology's reliance on the traditional and oftentimes stereotypical ideas of "what boys are made of". That said, it does also include the "Sugar and Spice" that is commonly reserved for girls. The illustrations are awesome at showing how what we meet children doing is cypher in comparing to what their imaginations are really accomplishing.
The book was very short and to the point. It was sing songy and rhymed all throughout. The illustrations are very eye catching and go along with the text to a T. (i.e. pg. 8-ten) it talks about snakes, rats, and large jungle cats with picture of each below trailing the boy. On each page it transitions from real life playing with the toys to the boys imagination and the toys coming to life.
A sweet interpretation of the archetype nursery rhyme. Colorful details characteristic scenes from a little boy's dream: a rocket diggings into space, an explorer in the jungle, a pirate commanding a ship, a soccer star scoring a goal, and even a knight taming a dragon.
Beautiful repeat book nigh what little boys are made of. Dragons and pirates and basic and stones. All in rhyming. And ultimately, of cuddles and dearest, besides. Beautiful.

Although the volume displays vibrant pictures that cover entire pages, it as well introduces gender to the young audience. It uses repetition and a rhyme scheme to keep the child intrigued, merely besides offers generalizations about interests of little boys that may either persuade little girls that they are not "supposed" to like the same things equally boys or in extreme cases, convince them that they are little boys inside. As an adult reader, it is easy to differentiate the latent message likewise every bit the intended bulletin, but this will exist hard for the young audition to exercise. In the early years of socialization and self identity, I would non recommend this story specially for children having trouble identifying themselves every bit individuals.

A new spin and modern touch to the popular nursery rhyme. The bold illustrations against the white background and uncomplicated, rhyming text makes this a fun a quick read. Information technology's a darling volume that I enjoyed reading. However, the gender stereotyping, peculiarly in today'due south lodge may be criticized. Quite honestly, it doesn't bother me. It is an adorable picture volume that would make a great shower gift for someone expecting a boy.

Annotation:It talks near of the things that brand a little boy special and unique.

An update on a classic nursery rhyme virtually footling boys. This version includes many common boy interests and shows a child at play and then builds to a two page spread to showcase the world of his imagination. This pattern is followed throughout the stanzas that make up the volume.
A great celebration of boys volume! Good read aloud.

I gave this volume v/v stars. Information technology was great to read a volume with a positive look at little boys. I thought the illustrations were well washed. I liked the text as it flowed from i scene to the next. I recommend this book for all parents of footling boys! I besides remember all little boys will enjoy the illustrations!
"Are boys' interests dissimilar from girls? What do boys like to practise? How do they accept fun? What games do they play? What toys do they similar? What makes boys tick? Practice boys like to hug? Do boys need love? This familiar read will brand you retrieve of plant nursery rhymes and playgrounds, but volition ultimately surprise yous in the end."

I may be a tad biased because I have two boys, but I thought this book was really sweet and indicative of the imaginary life of little boys. Information technology'south a take on the poem about "Snips and snails and puppy dog tails, that'due south what niggling boys are made of" only takes it further and with more affection.
Corking illustrations.

I can meet this as a overnice baby shower gift for new parents having a boy, or as a birthday gift for a young male child. A cute retelling of the erstwhile song, and nice for 1-on-1 sharing, but I'm not sure I'd use it in storytime.

Pre-Yard to Thou. Girls don't have the corner market on carbohydrate and spice. I liked this book because it has a lot of the messy/courageous sorts of things boys _tend_ to be interested in-- just likewise recognizes the cuddly sweet side. Sweet.

Upbeat, male child-positive. "Moons and stars and rockets to Mars"
Nice mother/son dynamic.
Colorful full folio imaginative spreads alternating west/ quieter scenes of the boy playing. Like a sweeter, gentler Calvin (of and Hobbes fame)
Pair w/ Button by Aliki.
I wanted to like it, but I kept on thinking, "What nearly the girls?" All of the things the boy likes in this, I liked too as a girl, and I don't meet why girls today tin't similar them too. Whatsoever happened to "complimentary to be you and me?"

Fun spin on the plant nursery rhyme with bold, colorful illustrations.

Super cute read. My little boys loved it. Wonderful illustrations kept them searching; pirate ship, jungle, castle. A playful, updated spin on the classic plant nursery rhyme.

I accept a firm full.of boys and this was a perfect read

Plain a lot more than just frogs and snails and puppy-canis familiaris'southward tails...cute rhymes with energetic and imaginative illustrations.

Don't let snakes and snails dictate what niggling boys are fabricated of. They are made up of and so much more! This lovely rhyming volume is a must for anyone with a little boy in their lives!

The text didn't make alot of sense to me only maybe information technology is supposed to be sung? Either fashion, nosotros all enjoyed this one. Cute illustrations and both boys loved the illustration of a soccer game.

Nyeh. Politically corrected to make sure the generic boy has a feminine side. Nothing specially unique or artistic about the treatment given this traditional plant nursery rhyme.

Beautiful rhyming scheme... Micah loved this 1!

Meh, boring. Not engaging at all. Even the illustrations were mediocre in this volume.

Skillful book for young kids. Good pictures.
